Quick answer

Choose Operelio if

  • You want values Salesforce would refuse, such as picklist or field length errors, flagged before anything loads.
  • Lead lists need dedupe, email checks and format fixes on the way in, in the same place you import them.
  • A list arrives every week and should be loaded by a trail, with leads shared round robin between reps (Starter and up).

Choose Salesforce Data Import Wizard if

  • You want to pick the match field yourself, such as name, email or Salesforce ID.
  • You are importing campaign members, person accounts, solutions or custom objects.
  • You want nothing to install and nothing to pay beyond Salesforce.

Mapping, merging and cleaning the file

Saved mappings carry your work from file to file: load one on the next file, or start from a ready-made one for sources such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo or Eventbrite. Columns can merge into one field or split into several, and any field can take a fixed value.

The wizard does not clean the file, so you prepare it before you start. Operelio dedupes it, fixes formats and runs the free email quality check before the load. With credits on Starter and up, email verification confirms each mailbox can receive mail.

Checking every row before it loads

The wizard matches on the criteria you pick and then runs the import. Operelio reports the outcome of every row first.

Operelio checks each row against the records and fields in your org. Its report gives the reason for each skip and refusal, and a load you start by hand waits for your confirm.

Duplicate rules work the same for both

Your org's duplicate rules apply to both tools. Salesforce's docs say that for records added by the import tools or the API, no alert is shown and the record is not saved where a rule applies.

Operelio writes through the API, so its push follows the same rules. Its report also flags new rows that look like an existing lead or contact by name and company, so you see them before the push, not in the results.

Lists that arrive every week

The wizard runs one import at a time, when you start it. An Operelio trail runs the same mapping, cleaning, checks and load on each new file, on arrival or on a schedule.

Each folder takes files by upload, by email or through the API (Pro and up), and email-in can be limited to senders you allow. You choose how much runs on its own: approve every load, or let clean runs load by themselves.

Where Salesforce Data Import Wizard is better

  • Already in Salesforce

It is part of Salesforce, with no package to install and nothing to pay.

Questions

Can Operelio replace the Data Import Wizard?

Yes, for leads, contacts and accounts, on Starter and up. Operelio adds saved and ready-made mappings, merged or split fields and a check against Salesforce before each load, with warnings for picklists, field lengths and required fields. Campaign members and custom objects stay with the wizard.

Can the Data Import Wizard import opportunities?

No. Salesforce lists assets, cases, campaigns, contracts, documents, opportunities and products as objects the import wizards can't import.

Can Operelio load leads into Salesforce on a schedule?

Yes, on Starter and up. A trail picks up each new file on arrival or on a schedule (every day, on weekdays, once a week or every 6, 8 or 12 hours). It does not re-load a file it has already run, so each run needs a new file.

What does Operelio need to connect to Salesforce?

An admin installs a free managed package once, then you connect by signing in. Connect as a user who can see all leads, contacts and accounts, so matching sees every record.

Can I undo an Operelio push to Salesforce?

No. There is no one-click undo, so check the report before you push. By default Operelio only fills blank fields, and it never deletes records.
