How to import ActiveCampaign data into Zoho Leads

Import your ActiveCampaign contacts into Zoho as leads. This template maps name, email, phone, organization, and title to Zoho's lead fields. Two things to know before you start: Zoho requires both Last_Name and Company on every lead, and ActiveCampaign exports often have blanks in both columns. The Before you start section below explains how to handle both.

Field-by-field mapping

This is the complete column mapping from ActiveCampaign to Zoho Leads. The left column is the header in your CSV export. The right column is the Zoho Leads field it should map to.

Before you start

This template's destination has 2 required fields that need attention before upload. You can still use this template. The steps below tell you what to add and where.

  • Last NameLast_Name

Zoho requires Last Name on every lead. ActiveCampaign exports the column, but subscribers who signed up with only an email leave Last Name blank.

What to do. Before upload, fill any blank Last Name cells with a placeholder like 'Unknown' so every row passes Zoho's import validation.

  • Company

Zoho requires Company on every lead. Email-marketing subscribers often have no organization set, leaving Organization blank.

What to do. Before upload, fill blank Organization cells with a placeholder like 'Unknown'. Or bulk-edit Company in Zoho after import on the new leads.

Columns we don't use

Your ActiveCampaign export includes 8 columns this template doesn't map. Each one below explains why, plus the workaround if you want the data in Zoho Leads.

Mailing Address 1, Mailing City, Mailing State, Mailing Zip, Mailing Country

Zoho Leads doesn't have a Mailing address block on the standard layout. Those fields live on Zoho Contacts. ActiveCampaign's address columns get dropped unless you add custom fields on the Lead.

If you need it. Add custom address fields on the Zoho Lead, or convert leads to contacts after import to capture the address block.

Tags

ActiveCampaign tags export as a comma-separated string. Zoho uses Lead_Status and custom picklist fields rather than free-form tags.

If you need it. After import, map ActiveCampaign tag values to Zoho's Lead_Status picklist. Or add a custom multi-select field on the Zoho Lead called Tags and re-run this template to map it.

Status

ActiveCampaign's Status column records subscription state (Active, Unsubscribed, Bounced). Zoho uses Email_Opt_Out, which is a boolean set per-lead.

If you need it. Filter out unsubscribed and bounced rows before upload. For the rest, set Email_Opt_Out in Zoho after import based on subscription preference.

Date Unsubscribed

ActiveCampaign records the date a contact unsubscribed in this column. Zoho Leads don't have an unsubscribe-date field by default.

If you need it. Filter out rows with a Date Unsubscribed value before upload to avoid importing unsubscribed leads. If you need the date preserved, create a custom date field on the Zoho Lead and map this column to it.

Formatting and cleanup

ActiveCampaign exports rarely match the format Zoho Leads expects. Fix these before you import.

  1. 1.Lowercases and trims email addresses
  2. 2.Standardizes phone numbers to international format (+1, +44, etc.)
  3. 3.Renames ActiveCampaign columns to Zoho's underscored API names (First_Name, Last_Name)
  4. 4.Maps ActiveCampaign's Organization to Zoho's Company field (required on every lead)

Or skip the manual work

Operelio runs this cleanup and mapping for you. Upload your ActiveCampaign export and download a clean, import-ready file for Zoho Leads.

ActiveCampaign to Zoho Leads FAQ

How do I export contacts from ActiveCampaign?

In ActiveCampaign, go to Contacts, apply any filters you need, click the export icon, and download the CSV.

Why are these going to Zoho Leads instead of Contacts?

This template is for users treating ActiveCampaign contacts as net-new leads in Zoho. Leads are the right destination for email-marketing subscribers who haven't been qualified yet. If you want to import them as Zoho Contacts (with an Account link) instead, convert them in Zoho after import using the Lead Conversion tool.

Zoho requires Last_Name and Company. What if my contacts have blanks?

The 'Before you start' banner above explains both: fill blank cells with 'Unknown' before upload, or bulk-edit in Zoho after import.

What about ActiveCampaign tags?

Tags export as a comma-separated string. Zoho doesn't use free-form tags on leads. See 'Columns we don't use' below for the picklist-mapping workaround.

Will this create duplicate leads in Zoho?

Zoho uses Email as the unique-value field on leads by default, so rows with matching emails update the existing record rather than creating a duplicate. You can change the match field in Setup, Data Administration, Deduplication if your team uses a different convention.
