Why Salesforce needs a one-time install
HubSpot and Pipedrive connect to Operelio with nothing but an OAuth approval. Salesforce only allows an external app to connect to your org if the app is installed there first, and it applies that rule to every vendor.
So the Salesforce connection is two steps split between two people. A Salesforce admin installs the free Operelio package once, and from then on anyone on your team connects from Operelio in one click.
The package contains only the Operelio app definition, so your org recognizes Operelio when a user asks to connect. It runs no code and adds no objects, fields, or layout changes.
For the Salesforce admin: installing the package
Open the install link: operelio.com/install/salesforce. It redirects to Salesforce's standard package-install page. If a teammate sent you the link, it matches the one on Operelio's connections page under the Salesforce card.
Sign in with your admin account when Salesforce asks. On the install screen, choose Install for All Users, then Install. The install finishes in about a minute and Salesforce emails you a confirmation.
To check it worked, open Setup and search for External Client App Manager. Operelio appears in the list with type Packaged (Installed) and status Enabled.
Salesforce can take a while after the install to activate the app's sign-in configuration in your org. If a user connects right away and still sees the message that the org needs the Operelio package, wait and retry. No settings need changing.
For the Operelio user: connecting and pushing
Once your admin has installed the package, open Settings, then Integrations, then Open connections in Operelio, and press Connect on the Salesforce card. Salesforce asks you to sign in with your own account and approve the connection. Operelio never sees your password.
After you approve, the card shows Active with your org's address, and Salesforce appears as a push destination at the export step of the CRM Formatter. Pushes create and update Contacts or Leads, matched on email, with a full report before anything is written.
Connecting a sandbox instead? Tick 'Connect a sandbox org' on the Salesforce card before pressing Connect, and ask your admin to install the package in that sandbox too.
If the connection is refused
"Your Salesforce org needs the Operelio package first": your org doesn't have the package yet (or Salesforce is still activating it after a very recent install). Send the install link to your Salesforce admin, or wait a few minutes if they've just run it.
Signed into the wrong org: if you have several Salesforce logins, Salesforce may send you into whichever org you used last. Sign out of Salesforce first, or use a private browser window, and log in with the account for the org that has the package.
Anything else: after a failed attempt the connections page shows the exact Salesforce error code. Include it when you contact support and we can tell you what happened.
Frequently asked questions
Does the package cost anything or run code in our org?
No on both. The package is free and contains only the Operelio app definition: no Apex code, no custom objects, no changes to your data or layouts. It gives your org a record of who Operelio is so users can connect.
Who can install it?
A Salesforce admin (someone with permission to install packages) in the org you want to connect. Regular users can't install packages, which is why the connections page gives you a link to send to your admin.
Do we need to install it again for each user?
No. The install happens once per Salesforce org. After that, each Operelio user in your company connects with the Connect button and their own Salesforce login.
What permissions does Operelio get?
Only what a user approves at the OAuth screen: API access to read and write contacts and leads as that user, plus the ability to stay connected with a refresh token. Admins can review and revoke the app any time in Setup under External Client App Manager.
